Llanbedrog

Just off the A499 from Pwllheli, westwards towards Abersoch, is the picturesque village of Llanbedrog, truly a hidden gem just off The Coastal Way, part of the Visit Wales designation, the Wales Way. There is so much to do in Llanbedrog, that it actually warrants a day out in itself, with something for all the family.

Plas Glyn-y-Weddw

For culture, there is the renowned arts and heritage centre of Plas Glyn-y-Weddw, an excellent showcase for contemporary arts and crafts from Wales and beyond - the Grand Summer Exhibition, featuring works by a huge selection of artists has opened recently, and will be open until the end of September. This exhibition takes place alongside the Rhych exhibition by Simon Callery and Stefan Gant, which consists of artworks and field drawings from the excavation of Moel-y-Gaer at Bodfari in the Vale of Clwyd.

Tin Man Llanbedrog

The Llanbedrog Coastal Circular Walk can be accessed from Plas Glyn-y-Weddw's mature woodlands. This walk takes you up to Mynydd Tir-y-Cwmwd headland, and its stunning views over Cardigan Bay - keep a lookout for the distinctive Tin Man Sculpture. Care should be taken on the walk, especially with children, as there are some steep parts. It's a 2.3 mile circular walk, and will take about 2 hours.

Traeth Llanbedrog Beach

Llanbedrog also has an excellent family friendly, sandy, shallow water beach, a National Trust site, where you can spot oyster catchers and curlews. The car park is free to Trust members, and it's at the car park that you can pick up some family fun adventure packs which contain a variety of interesting activities for the kids - 50 things to do before you're 11¾. Some fun day events are also held on the beach by the National Trust during the summer, check their website for information. Imagine unwinding after a hard day exploring Llanbedrog, with a drink and a meal in a beach side bar and restaurant, continental style. Well, you can actually do this at Aqua Beach Bar, a beach side bar and restaurant, equipped for all weathers.

Aqua Beach Bar

It really is the icing on the cake at this picturesque village, but booking is essential. There are also two other pubs nearby - the Glyn y Weddw Arms Tŷ Du and The Ship Y Llong, which both offer an excellent and varied menu.
